SBVC falls in state semifinals

The San Bernardino Valley College women's soccer team had a sensational finish in 2018, making it to the CCCAA state semifinals before falling to Lake Tahoe College, 2-0, on Friday in Ventura.  The Wolverines finished the season 19-2-4 overall and winning the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference North Division.

San Bernardino Valley represented the PCAC well at the state championships, but eventually fell to a Lake Tahoe team that entered the tournament 20-0-4 and as the top seed from the northern half of the state.  The Wolverines and Coyotes were scoreless for the majority of the game before Lake Tahoe broke through with two goals in the final 15 minutes to claim a spot in the state finals.

Despite Lake Tahoe having a big advantage in total shots (11-4), the shots-on-goal were very close with the Coyotes holding a 5-4 advantage for the game.  Lake Tahoe finally broke through when Angelica Hurtado shattered the ice with a goal in the 77th minute for a 1-0 advantage.  The Coyotes then added an insurance goal in the 90th minute when Samantha Frates found the back of the net in the waning moments.

San Bernardino Valley has won three straight Pacific Coast Athletic Conference titles since joining the conference, and has won or shared a conference title every season since 2012 (4 times in Foothill).  The Wolverines finished 19-2-4 in 2018.
