Stepien heads the All-PCAC Team

The women's tennis season is winding down, with only the state tournament in Ojai remaining on the schedule.  The coaches in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference have determined the all-conference team, led by College of the Desert's Claudia Stepien.

Stepien won the PCAC singles championship this past week, giving her the title Move Valuable Player in the conference.  It was the second consecutive season that Stepien has claimed the title after making it to the state tournament round of 16 a year ago as a freshman.

Joining Stepien on the all-conference list for singles play was seven others.  Grossmont was represented with two players as both Katrinna Jasso and Madelein Liljekvist were selected.  San Diego City College also had two selections in Palia Griffin and Eliza Wearren.  Irish Krishna Valentos (Southwestern), Cali Smith (Palomar) and Natalie Shunnara (Imperial Valley) were also named to the team for singles play.

A total of four doubles teams were selected to the all-conference team, lead by conference champions Griffin and Wearren from San Diego City College.  Grossmont had two doubles teams making the all-conference list as Jillian Kan and Amy Linquist teamed to take second place at the PCAC Finals while the duo of Katrinna Jasso and Alycia Franklin made it to the semifinals.  The final doubles team was from College of the Desert as Stepien was joined by Karla Munoz in making it to the semifinals.

In addition to player recognition, Grossmont coach Megan Haber was named the Coach-of-the-Year after her Griffins captured the PCAC title with a perfect 12-0 record.  It was the sixth straight season that Grossmont has either won or shared the title, all under Haber.

The CCCAA State Championships will take place in Ojai, California, on April 24-28.
