SAN DIEGO, CA (4/3/2025) -- The 2025 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) women's tennis regular season wrapped up dominantly as San Diego City College captured the conference championship with a perfect 8-0 record, securing their spot atop the standings.
The Knights, led by Player of the Year Angie Palmerin and Coach of the Year Jami Jones, were a force all season long, sweeping through their opponents with consistency and depth. Palmerin, who holds the top singles spot and competes in the No. 1 doubles team alongside Betty Gezahegne, was nearly untouchable throughout the season and enters the conference tournament as one of the favorites.
Mt. San Jacinto College and Grossmont College finished tied for second place with strong 5-3 records, both earning recognition for their competitive seasons. Grossmont College, in addition to its on-court success, was honored with the Team Sportsmanship Award, exemplifying the values of respect and integrity throughout the season.
Southwestern College finished fourth at 2-6, while Imperial Valley College rounded out the standings with an 0-8 record.
The spotlight now shifts to the PCAC Conference Tournament, which begins Thursday, April 3, at Grossmont College, with matches continuing into Friday. Palmerin, the No. 1 seed in singles, and the Palmerin/Gezahegne duo in doubles both received first-round byes and are positioned well to make deep runs.
Early matches include a strong field of contenders from across the conference. In singles, watch for San Diego City's Jessi Hoffpauir, Grossmont's Sydney McClain, and Mt. San Jacinto's Madison Williamson to challenge in the later rounds. In doubles, the teams of Stuman/Braunschweig (Grossmont) and Williamson/Barron (Mt. San Jacinto) look poised to push deep into the draw.
The tournament promises two days of exciting action as athletes compete not only for individual titles but also for pride, momentum, and potential postseason honors.
