MiraCosta and Mesa claim division titles

The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference crowned two regular season champions this past week when MiraCosta College and San Diego Mesa College earned conference championships for the regular season.  MiraCosta claimed the PCAC North title while San Diego Mesa claimed the PCAC South.

The Pacific Coast Athletic Conference found out on Monday that six teams from the conference are now rated in the top-25 in the state in the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCWVCA) State Rankings.  Two of those programs are MiraCosta and Mesa, who come in at No. 18 and No. 22, respectively.

MiraCosta (19-3, 9-1) captured the north title this past week, finishing 9-1 in PCAC North play.  The Spartans fought off second place Mt. San Jacinto College (19-4, 8-2), who finished 8-2.  The lone loss for MiraCosta during conference play was a final match with College of the Desert (19-4, 7-3), who finished in third place in the standings.  Mt. San Jacinto is ranked No. 23 in the CCCVBCA Rankings while Desert comes in at No. 25.

San Diego Mesa (16-10, 9-1) was picked to finish a close third by the sports information directors before the season began and pulled off a light upset in winning the south division.  The Olympians split with Grossmont (19-5, 7-3), who was the heavy favorite in the preseason poll to win the division but finished third.  Finishing second in the division was San Diego City (17-7, 8-2), who defeated Grossmont both times they played them.  Interestingly, Grossmont is still the top-ranked team in the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference as they come in ranked No. 13 in the state by the CCCWVBCA while Mesa is No. 22 and San Diego City No. 24.

Most of the programs in the PCAC have crossover matches this week before the CCCAA Southern California Regional Pairings are announced the following weekend.  Keep it posted to paccoastconf.com for all the latest news and follow us on Twitter at PCACSports @PcacSports
