Imperial Valley runner wins Palomar Invitational

The first big meet of the 2018 season is in the books and Imperial Valley College has the early favorite for the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference individual title in Sabrina Benavides.  The freshman ran away from a talented pack at the Palomar Invitational on Friday.

The 2018 season has started and Benavides looks like one of the favorites to win the individual title at the PCAC Finals next month.  Benavides covered the course at Guajome Park (Oceanside) in 19:31.3, winning by more than nine seconds over Saddleback's Megan Good.  She helped Imperial Valley to a sixth place finish as a team.

Other teams from the PCAC Meet were Palomar College, San Diego City College, Grossmont College, Cuyamaca College and College of the Desert.  Palomar finished atop the PCAC programs with a fourth place finish at the meet.

Other top-10 individuals finishers from the PCAC on Friday were Cuymaca's Courtney Clifford (7th), Palomar's Hannah Lopez (8th) and San Diego City's Dafne Perez (9th).
