Across the PCAC: Weekend Roundup

SAN DIEGO, CA (8/30/2022) – All nine schools in the PCAC opened their seasons over the weekend. 

Women's soccer got things rolling first. Palomar, Imperial Valley and Southwestern all collected wins in their season and home openers. Palomar defeated Mt. San Jacinto 1-0 on a goal by Emma Guevara in the 29th minute. Imperial Valley took down Glendale 2-1. IVC came out hot when Caroline Plunkett scored the first goal in the 4th minute off an assist from Lesley Sandoval and then decided to do it again two minutes later to make the score 2-0, this time off an assist from Alexa Campos. Glendale scored their goal in the 28th minute and the two teams played scoreless soccer from there. Southwestern racked up six goals in a 6-0 shutout win over Irvine Valley College. Elsa Sarabia recorded a hat trick scoring goals in the 9th, 59th and 73rd minutes. The Jaguars had 19 shots and five corner kicks on the day. 

On the men's side of the pitch, MiraCosta and Cuyamaca ended in ties to start the season. MiraCosta scored their first goal in the 20th minute and held Santa Monica College until the 89th minute when they tied the match. Cuyamaca played from behind as LA Mission scored two quick goals in the 5th minute of the match. The Coyotes then rolled to tie it up at 2 a piece.
Moving inside for volleyball, two PCAC schools competed in quad competitions while four more played solo matches. MiraCosta faced Pasadena City College in their first match and played a tough five sets, but fell 3-2 in the end. They then regrouped and defeated Mt. San Jacinto College 3-1 to split the day. Imperial Valley also split the day as they lost to Ventura College (3-1) and swept Copper Mountain College. Palomar was locked in a tight battle and came out on top against San Bernardino Valley in a 3-2 victory. San Diego Mesa, last season's conference champions, made light work of El Camino College 3-1 in their season opener.
