Hastings and Dumo bring home athlete of the week crowns

SAN DIEGO, CA (11/7/2022) -- With the fall sports wrapping up their regular season competitions, their time for athletes of the week are coming to a close. Last week Southwestern College's Zack Hastings and Grossmont College's Lauren Dumo had big weeks for their teams.

Hastings, a freshman on the men's water polo team, has been a dominant force all season and he helped lead the Jaguars to a No. 2 seed in the conference championship tournament last weekend. They ended up facing No. 3 Palomar College and won 12-10, thanks in large part to Hastings's five goals. Southwestern then found themselves in the championship match against Grossmont College, but ultimately lost to take second place. Hastings recorded seven goals in that match. In both matches he also recorded one assist. He led the conference with 107 goals this season.

Dumo had 32 digs in a 5-set thriller win over No. 6 in the state and No. 2 in PCAC San Diego Mesa to essentially clinch the PCAC title and for Grossmont to remain undefeated in conference play 13-0. Dumo was a huge component in both wins over No. 2 ranked Mesa and had 19 digs last match-up against Mesa and has consistently performed as a freshman. She currently averages 4.13 digs per set and has 297 digs on the season which is second in the PCAC. Additionally, she had 11 digs in a sweep over San Diego City last night in our sixteenth straight win.
