Sanders and Lloyd bring home the AOTW honor

SAN DIEGO, CA (2/6/2023) -- More student-athletes are competing as the spring season is in full effect, so more student-athletes are eligible for the conference athlete of the week award. This week the awards go to Palomar College Baseball's Jack Sanders and San Diego City College Women's Basketball's Kanyia Lloyd.

Sanders and the Comets split the weekend with Fullerton College, but Sanders was a bright spot for the Comets, proving he is still raking and living up to his Big Stick Award from last season. Sanders went 4-9 over the series with three RBI. He recorded two doubles, a triple and a solo home run. The Comets had a comeback win over the Hornets on Friday afternoon and Sanders' triple evened the score in the seventh inning at four.

Llyod and the Knights pulled off their first back-to-back wins since November last week as they defeated MiraCosta College on Wednesday night and Cuyamaca College on Friday. Against MiraCosta, Lloyd was the Knights' leading scorer with 17 points five rebounds and four assists. Normally, a leading rebounder on defense she unselfishly focused her energy on boxing out to keep their leading rebounder off the board, while also battling and finishing 9-14 on the free throw line. Against Cuyamaca, she was our leading scorer again with 19 points and seven rebounds.

Honorable Mentions

Camille Sroufe (Palomar, Basketball): Sroufe broke the record for most made threes in a game on Friday night against Southwestern as she went 10-17 to finish with 30 points.

Julian Nunez (SD City, Baseball): Nunez went 7-13 with four RBI and five runs as the Knights went 2-1 last week.

Deyjanae Williams (MiraCosta, Basketball): Williams finished the week with 49 points and 34 rebounds as the Spartans split the week.
