Hain and Sandez get it done for Comets and Jags

SAN DIEGO, CA (3/6/2023) -- A week after winter storms put a quash on outdoor events, the sun broke through the clouds and allowed baseball and softball to get back to business. Palomar College's Carter Hain and Southwestern College's Daniela Sandez had big weeks for their teams as both the Comets and Jaguars went undefeated last week.

The Comets took down Saddleback College last Tuesday before taking the opening series sweep against San Diego City College on Friday and Saturday. Hain played a big role all week, but had two standout performances, both of which came against the Knights. On Friday, Hain recorded a 3-run inside-the-park home run en route to the 20-1 victory over the Knights. Locked in a 1-1 battle on Saturday afternoon, the Comets and Knights went to extras. That's when Hain singled through the right side to give the Comets the lead. Through three games, he went 6-13 with six RBI, five runs, one triple, one home run and one walk.

Southwestern collected two wins last week, a 10-3 routing of Golden West College and a 10-4 conference opening win over San Diego City. The Jags were down 3-1 going into the fourth inning. Following a 2-run double by her teammate, Sandez had the go-ahead single as the Jags rallied for three more runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Against City, Sandez also recorded a go-ahead 2-run single en route to the 10-4 win. She finished the week 5-7 with three runs, five RBI, one walk and a stolen base.
