SAN DIEGO, CA (3/29/2023) -- Grossmont College's Tanner May and San Diego Mesa College's Jessenia Lopez have been named this week's conference athletes of the week.

May, a 6-7 freshman middle block, had a phenomenal night on Friday with 15 kills and hitting .542%. In addition, he had five blocks and three aces in a five-set win over Palomar College as the Griffins won their first match of the season. May played an integral role in the win over the Comets. The Griffins and May have continued to grow in not only each match this season but also in each set. 

Lopez, a pitcher and second baseman for the Olympians, had the game-winning single over San Diego City College last week. In the sixth inning, Lopez singled to score teammate Jolene Giles, who had been hit by a pitch and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Lopez was 2-2 in that game. Earlier in the week, she was 2-4 against Imperial Valley College in a 17-0 win in the desert.
