Spring stars shine bright early

SAN DIEGO, CA (3/11/2024) -- It's officially the spring season and the spring teams are already showing out. Palomar College's Ryan Rivera had a big week at the plate as the designated hitter while San Diego Mesa College's No. 2s Emily Eltrich and Victoria Goff went 2-0 on the week to help the Olympians open conference play with two sweeps.

Rivera went 8-14 in three games and finished with four runs, three doubles, one home run and six RBI. He is currently hitting .333 and hit his second four-bagger of the season, a three-run shot, on Saturday afternoon as the Comets cruised past Mesa with a 19-7 win. Rivera, started in the infield for the Comets this season and has since settled into his role as the designated hitter, going 10-19 with nine RBI since.

On the sand, Eltrich and Goff are picking up where they left off, winning. They sailed past Palomar College in their conference opener, taking the match 25-15 and 21-12. In the second match of the day, the Olympians faced the MiraCosta College Spartans and while Mesa collected the 5-0 sweep, Eltrich and Goff put on a show. They took set one 21-18, but the Spartans came to life in the second set and won 21-17. In a back-and-forth third set, it was Eltrich and Goff who pulled out the 15-13 gritty win with all eyes on them.
