SAN DIEGO, CA (3/27/2024) -- Longtime Grossmont College and Southwestern College Athletic Director Jim Spillers passed away recently after a years-long battle with throat cancer.

A graduate of San Diego State University, Spillers was hired at Grossmont College in 2005 as their Athletic Director. As the college underwent changes in the early 2000s, Spillers saw two 3C2A State Champions and a National Championship. Grossmont won the Chet DeVore Trophy under Spillers. In 2016, Spillers moved on to Southwestern College where he was named the Athletic Director and Dean of the Wekkness and Exercise Science Department. He retired in 2020. 

Celebration of Life services will be held April 21, 2024 from 1-4 p.m. at the Marina Village Baja Room.
