Brooklynn Thomas and Josephine Springer represented MSJC this weekend in the 3C2A Beach volleyball Regional Pairs Tournament at El Camino and won three matches to advance to the State Championships this weekend at West Valley College.

The duo, seeded 27th in the tournament, started their busy weekend on Friday morning and in their opening round match lost a tough one to the 6th seed from Irvine Valley in three sets.  The Eagle pair won the first set 21-14, but could not close out the match as they lost the second set 19-21 and the third 12-15.

Thomas and Springer were not done though, as they came back through the backdraw starting with a three set win over Mt. SAC.  That match was another nail biter as the Eagles won set one 21-15, lost the second 22-24, and then won the third and deciding set 15-11.  In their third match of the day the pair won in straight sets over a team from MiraCosta 21-16 and 21-15 to advance to Saturday.

Saturday the Eagles needed just one win to advance to the State Championships, but they woud have to go through the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference champions from Miramar.  The Eagles came out and won a marathon first set 25-23, and then rode that momentum into a sweep as they took the second set 21-17 to advance to the State Tournament.

Thomas and Springer become the first players in program history to advance to the 3C2A Beach State Tournament.  Friday the pair will take to the court in Saratoga, CA at West Valley College in the 32 team event.  Brackets will be announced later this week.
