In their final regular season game of the year, the Cerritos College softball team dropped a 10-4 decision at Palomar College on Thursday. The Falcons (28-12), who finished in fourth place in the South Coast Conference, will open the Southern California Regional Playoffs next weekend. It marks the 16th consecutive year Cerritos has qualified for the postseason.

Against the Comets (35-4), the Falcons jumped on the board in the top of the first inning. Sophomore outfielder Jazmine Macias (La Mirada HS) led off by getting hit by a pitch and then stole her 45th base of the season. She then came home on a double by sophomore shortstop Marley Manalo (Walnut HS), who then scored on an RBI single from sophomore first baseman Nadia Landeros (Warren HS/Rio Hondo College).

Palomar got one of the runs base in the bottom of the stanza and then opened up a 4-2 advantage. Cerritos closed the deficit to 4-3 in the top of the fifth inning when sophomore outfielder Jocelyn Doan (Walnut HS) led off with a bunt single and came around to score on a double by Macias.

However, the Comets responded with three runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings to take a 10-3 advantage. The Falcons got one of the runs back in the top of the seventh inning when Macias doubled and then came home on a ground out by Manalo.

On the day, Macias went 2-for-4 with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI, while Landero was 2-for-4 with an RBI.
