SARATOGA - Madison Bogle was close to a 3C2A Beach Volleyball Pairs Championship in 2022, falling in the semifinals to the eventual winners, Emma Crabbe and Kelissa Lemoine of Santa Barbara City College. This year brought a different feeling for the Grossmont College sophomore who teamed with freshman Alana Embry for an exciting three-set win over Brisa Zapata-Reaves and Corinne Williams of Orange Coast and the pairs title at this year's state championship tournament at the beautiful beach volleyball courts at West Valley College on Saturday afternoon.

The victory gave Grossmont a clean sweep of banners at the tournament after also winning the team championship on Thursday over Ventura.

Bogle and Embry won three matches on Saturday to earn their spot in the championship match, opening with wins over Gabi Brown/Sydney Dews of Irvine Valley College (21-9, 21-18) and Flor Porras/Kiana Manson of West Valley (21-7, 23-21) before beating Lindsay Heller/Erin Eschleman of Cabrillo in the semifinals. Zapata Reaves and Williams were also straight-set victors in their first two matches, beating Irvine Valley's Chloe Swanson/Barett Nolan (23-21, 21-18) and Ashley Johnson/Olivia Stetten of Ventura (21-19, 21-16) before turning back Autumn Rojiello-Moreno/Kayla Murdoch of Ventura (21-14, 21-16) in a rematch of Thursday's team championship, also win by Zapata-Reaves/Williams.

Zapata-ReavesWilliams took the momentum from their semifinal victory to quickly win the first set of the championship, 21-10. The match was tight the rest of the way, though, with just six points separating the teams over the final two sets. However, Bogle/Embry found the better of the showdown, posting three-point wins in each of them to claim the crown.

Bogle teamed with Lexi Morris - herself a pairs champion in 2019 - to make a run to last year's semifinal before falling to Crabbe/Lemoine. This year brought a different result, however, delivering Grossmont its second pairs champion in the seven-year tournament history, and marking the second time that Grossmont captured both the team and pairs championships in the same year.

Williams was a semifinalist last year while at Sierra College, teaming with Natalie Taggert.

Bracket play began with 16 teams on Saturday morning after pool play competition on Saturday halved the original field of 32.
