Southwestern to host Supers

SAN DIEGO, CA (5/8/2023) -- In a wild turn of events, No. 15 Southwestern College and No. 22 Grossmont College are still alive in the 3C2A SoCal Regionals and No. 1 Palomar College was upset by No. 24 East Los Angeles College.

Palomar, who finished their season 34-8, won the first game of their regional 11-2, but couldn't get past the Huskies on Saturday as they took game two 2-1 and game three 7-3. 

Southwestern and Grossmont both pulled off upsets and will now face off in the double elimination Super Regionals. Grossmont swept defending state champion No. 3 Riverside City College 14-3 and 4-2 and Southwestern handled business against No. 10 Allan Hanock 3-2 (10 innings) and 6-4. The second round will be a double elimination involving the three remaining teams from each quadrant. Southwetsern and Grossmont are in the same quadrant along with College of the Canyons, who also pulled off an upset of No. 6 Orange Coast College. Southwestern, who is now the highest remaining seed in the quadrant, will be hosting the Super Regional round. 

Grossmont and Canyons will face off in game one at Southwestern on Thursday, May 11 at 11 a.m. Southwestern will play the second game.
