Grossmont captures PCAC title

The Grossmont College men's swim & dive team captured the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference (PCAC) swim and dive championship on Saturday in Chula Vista.  The Griffins racked up 757 points to outdistance second place Palomar by 82 points.

Grossmont won three events and three relays in holding off the rest of the field at the PCAC Finals.  Emilio Camarillo, Carlos Lazarr and Jake Nelson all won individuals titles while the 200 Freestyle 400 Freestyle and 800 Freestyle Relay Teams were all winners.

Camarillo and Lazarr led the team with 52 individual points apiece.  Camarillo was a winner in the 200 Individual Medley (1:59.10) while finishing second in the 100 Fly (51.84) and fourth in the 100 Freestyle (47.78).  Lazarr was first in the 100 Backstroke (57.83) while finishing second in the 200 Backstroke (2:10.67) and fourth in the 100 Fly (54.27). 

Nelson was a force in diving, winning the 3-meter competition (203) while finishing third in the 1-meter competition (172.35).

It was the second straight PCAC title for Grossmont after winning the previous title in 2019.  The 2020 and 2021 seasons were wiped out due to COVID-19.
