Mesa's Proffitt and Lorja named COTY/POTY

SAN DIEGO, CA (4/15/2024) -- San Diego Mesa College cruised through the conference schedule with relative ease, dropping just one game to San Diego Miramar College and now head coach David Proffitt has been named the 2024 Men's Volleyball Coach of the Year and sophomore middle blocker Ricardo Lorja was named the 2024 Men's Volleyball Player of the Year. Mesa also landed two additional players on the All-PCAC First Team in Trevor Clark and TJ Letuligasenoa. 

Lorja had a season-high 12 kills on 16 attacks to hit .857 against Grossmont College in the first round of play. He also recorded double-digit kills against Palomar College (11) and San Diego Miramar (10). In the five-set thriller against Miramar, Lorja finished with eight kills on 15 attacks and recorded a season-high five digs and three blocks. 

Clark led the conference in hitting percentage at .328 and was third in total kills at 186, averaging 3.38 kills per set. The freshman opposite hitter recorded double-digits in every conference match except two and finished with a season-high 17 against Palomar College in the second round. Clark also received the ball well, and recorded a total of 47 digs and a season-tying best nine against San Diego Miramar in the 3-2 loss. Letuligasenoa had a season-high 11 kills on 13 attacks to hit .846 against Grossmont College in the final round of play and recorded 11 digs against the Griffins in the opening round. 

Noah Lim (San Diego Miramar) and Asher Palpallatoc (Palomar) were also named 1st Team All-PCAC. Lim led the conference in kills per set and total kills at 3.62 and 221, respectively. Palpallatoc was chasing him all season, finishing second in both categories with 3.52 and 215, respectively. Grossmont' Jhon Manabat led the conference in digs per set (4.00) and total digs (216), earning him a 1st Team All-PCAC accolade.
