Palomar wraps up 9th straight PCAC title

The Palomar College softball team captured the Pacific Coast Athletic Conference championship on Wednesday with an 11-1 win against Southwestern College.  It was the ninth straight PCAC title for the Comets.

Palomar has been a dominating force in PCAC play over the past decade and with three games remaining on the 2022 schedule has already wrapped up the conference title.  The Comets are 27-5 overall and 8-1 in PCAC play and ranked No. 6 in the state according to the latest 3CFCA Poll.

Palomar made quick work of Southwestern on Wednesday, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the first inning and leading 11-0 after four innings in beating the Jaguars by virtue of the 8-run rule at the completion of the top of the fifth inning.

Palomar had a 3-for-3 performance from Taylor Harrison in the win while India Caldwell surrendered just two hits in five innings of work on the mound.  Harrison (pictured) had a triple and two doubles, finishing with four RBI on the day.  Caldwell's win was her 15th of the season.

Palomar has now won every PCAC title since the 2013 season, sharing the title with San Diego Mesa College in 2013.  The Comets were also credited with a PCAC title in 2020 when the season was halted after four games of conference play due to COVID-19.  The conference did not participate in 2021 due to COVID-19.

Palomar has three conference games and three non-conference games remaining on their schedule before the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs.
