Griffins go back-to-back; Trendler POTY

SAN DIEGO, CA (11/15/2023) -- Grossmont College won the 2023 Pacific Coast Athletic Conference for the second consecutive season and they did so in undefeated fashion. In addition to another title, sophomore setter Chelsee Trendler was named the 2023 Most Valuable Player and head coach Brooke Callahan was named the 2023 Coach of the Year. Grossmont had six additional players make the all-conference teams, three on the first team and three on the season team.

San Diego Mesa College finished in second place and landed six players on the all-conference teams. Palomar College and MiraCosta College finished in a tie for third place and each got four total all-conference selections. 

As the headliner for the First Team All-PCAC, Trendler finished the conference schedule with 446 assists, averaging 9.70 a set. She also totaled 55 kills on 111 total attacks to hit .423. Trendler also totaled 64 kills and 14 blocks in the 16 conference matches this season. She recorded a season-high 47 assists against Imperial Valley College on Oct. 11, a week after finishing with 46 against rival San Diego Mesa College on Oct. 4. In the same match against Mesa, Trendler tied her season-high 13 digs and seven kills. Her teammates Kate Beezer, Alyson Guise and Avery Banaag also received a First Team All-PCAC accolade. Beezer was an all around player for the Griffins, totaling 145 kills, 118 digs, nine blocks and 10 assists in their schedule schedule. Against Paloamr on Sept. 20, she had a season-high 22 kills and 17 digs. Guise led the conference in hitting percentage at .331 as they finished the regular season. Banaag led the conference with 324 digs through the regular season and finished the conference schedule with 205. She also totaled 49 assists in the 16 matches. San Diego Mesa's Kailyn Jager has been lights all season for the Olympians. She led the conference in kills and total kills per set all season, finishing with 379 and 4.68, respectively. In conference play, she had 202 kills on 400 attacks for a hitting percentage of .347. She also racked up 22 service aces and 135 digs.
